The aim is to cover a wide range of subjects, the criteria for choosing individual titles being that they are well-written, capable of being read by the layman, and that they are stimulating and lend themselves to discussion. Suggestions welcome.

Themes will be chosen by the group to inform our reading throughout the year. Perhaps our overarching theme might be to answer the question: "What makes a novel a good read these days?" and other "themes" we might consider are: prizewinning books; Arab/ Japanese/ S American authors; "Novels are written only for women?"; magical realism; investigating one author; classical books. Each month there will be one book under discussion.
